Writer’s Quote for March

The very first publication in my writing career was a poem printed in a Canadian women’s magazine. I was eighteen. Poetry, as a language of the spirit, speaks to and from all ages. This month’s inspirational quote(s) for writers comes from poet Stanley Jasspon Kunitz.

“Poetry wants to come out of your wilderness.”

“No matter how clean you have in your mind the form of your poem, the writing is magical.”

“The first task of the poet is to create the person who writes the poems.”

“You must be careful not to deprive the poem of its wild origin.”

Kunitz, born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1905, won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1959 and served as New York State Poet Laureate from 1987 to 1989. A prolific, inspirational and accomplished writer, Kunitz was still writing and publishing at age 100, the year he died.
